DMA setup for FiveM: the server is the anti-cheat
GTA V has three multiplayer environments with three different enforcement models. The one you play in decides what a DMA build changes, and on a roleplay server it changes almost nothing.
Short answer
FiveM runs on Cfx.re's own client and in-house anti-cheat, not the BattlEye that Rockstar added to GTA Online in 2024. On a roleplay server most rules are enforced by scripts the server owner wrote, and no hardware architecture changes server-side validation.

The three GTA V multiplayer environments
When people say GTA V, they can mean one of three things. The first is Rockstar's own GTA Online, which has run BattlEye at kernel level since Title Update 1.69 in September 2024. The second is FiveM, the multiplayer framework from Cfx.re, which runs its own client and its own in-house anti-cheat rather than BattlEye, plus whatever the server owner has installed. The third covers the other community frameworks, RageMP and alt:V, each of which again has its own client. These are not variations of one target but separate clients with separate enforcement, so a build written for one does not apply to another.
Which environment are you in?
Work out which row applies to you before anything else, because it decides what the enforcement layer is and what, if anything, a two-machine architecture changes about it.
| Environment | Enforcement | Ban reaches | What a DMA build changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA Online on Rockstar servers | BattlEye, kernel-mode, added in Title Update 1.69 (September 2024), plus Rockstar's own server-side systems | The Rockstar account, and Rockstar has issued hardware-level actions historically | Moves the reader off the machine BattlEye watches. Nothing else |
| FiveM (Cfx.re client) | Cfx.re's in-house client anti-cheat, plus the server's own anti-cheat resources | The server, and potentially the Cfx.re account across servers | Addresses only the client-side scan surface. Server-side checks are untouched |
| FiveM for GTAV Enhanced | The same Cfx.re model on the Enhanced game build | As above | As above, but it is a different game build — match the client to the build you own |
| RageMP, alt:V and other frameworks | Each framework's own client, plus server scripts | The server and the framework account | Same reasoning, different client. Confirm what a product page actually names |
Rockstar's BattlEye FAQ covers GTA Online only, and BattlEye is not the anti-cheat you face on a roleplay server. Quoting that FAQ to a server's admin team will not help you.
Warning
Why hardware cannot change server-side checks
A roleplay server runs its own anti-cheat resources, including event validation, entity ownership checks, position and health sanity checks, logging, and staff who spectate. These checks happen on the server, using data the server already has. Reading memory from a second machine does not change what the server is told, what a script validates or what an admin watching your session sees. A DMA build removes a client-side scan surface, but on FiveM that is the smaller half of the problem.
How the Legacy and Enhanced clients differ
There are now two FiveM clients: FiveM runs on the Legacy build of GTA V, while FiveM for GTAV Enhanced runs on the Enhanced build and arrived later as early access. Cfx.re documents the differences for server owners and resource developers, and they are real differences rather than a cosmetic split. This matters twice for a build. The game build number decides what a reader is reading, and the client decides which servers you can join. Know which one you have installed before you read a status row, and expect Rockstar's game updates and Cfx.re's client updates to arrive on different days.
The right order to start a session
- Decide which environment you are entering: GTA Online, FiveM Legacy, FiveM for Enhanced or another framework
- Launch the game and the client on their own and connect to a server with no reader attached
- Note the game build and the client version, then check today's status row against them
- Read the server's own rules, because its scripts and its staff are the enforcement you will actually meet
- Boot the second PC, confirm the card enumerates, then start the reader
- Attach once you are connected and loaded in, not during the connection sequence
- If a fuser is in the video path, set borderless fullscreen and match the resolution and refresh rate on both machines
FiveM checklist before each session
- You know which client you are launching and which GTA V build it runs on
- The game and client connect to a server on their own before the reader is involved
- You have read today's status row for your build and checked its date against the last game and client updates
- The card is in its data port, and the reader was attached after the game loaded in
- The game PC enumerates any input device as a standard mouse
- You have accepted that no hardware changes server-side scripts or staff who spectate
- Borderless fullscreen is set if a fuser sits in the video path
Common FiveM problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The build stopped working, but neither GTA V nor FiveM has updated | A server updated its own resources, including its anti-cheat scripts, and that change is invisible from outside the server | Test on a different server before assuming the build is broken, because a failure on one server is a server change, not a status-board event |
| The client will not connect after a Rockstar update | The game build moved ahead of the Cfx.re client, which is normal for a day or two after a Rockstar patch | Wait for the client update, because nothing in the stack can be fixed from your side until it arrives |
| The reader reads completely wrong structures | Legacy and Enhanced are different game builds, and a build written for one does not fit the other | Confirm which build you own and which client you launched, and match the product and status row to it |
| You were kicked or banned with no anti-cheat message | Server-side detection or a staff decision, neither of which produces a client-side error string | There is no technical fix, because this is how enforcement works in this environment |
FiveM and GTA V setup questions
Does FiveM use BattlEye?
No. Rockstar added BattlEye to GTA Online on its own servers with Title Update 1.69 in September 2024. FiveM runs on the Cfx.re client with its own in-house anti-cheat, plus whatever anti-cheat resources a server installs on top.
Is FiveM less strict than GTA Online?
It is different, not less strict. There is no kernel-mode third-party scanner in the way, but in exchange you face server-side validation and human staff, and a hardware architecture does not affect either of those.
Do I need the Legacy or the Enhanced client?
You need whichever one matches the GTA V build you own and the servers you want to join. They are separate clients on separate game builds, so anything build-specific is written against only one of them.
Do I need an input device for a FiveM build?
Only if the feature set moves the cursor, since a player-list and information build is read-only. Roleplay servers are also where machine-shaped aiming stands out most to staff.
Is a FiveM build working right now?
The store sells an external FiveM cheat at /products/fivem and a GTA V and FiveM DMA cheat at /products/fivem-dma. The status board answers for each build the store sells, but it cannot answer for a single server's own anti-cheat resources, which change without notice.
Info
What we can't confirm about individual servers
Roleplay servers publish little about their anti-cheat resources and can change them without warning, so nobody outside a server's staff knows what it runs or whether something works there. Read the status board for your build, and treat the behaviour of each individual server as unknown.
Sources
The details come from running the build rather than from a published source, and each server rewrites its own scripts whenever its owner decides to.
