GTA Online is not FiveM, and the difference decides what you buy
Rockstar's GTA Online has run BattlEye at kernel level since Title Update 1.69, while FiveM is a different client with its own enforcement. Buying the wrong one is a common mistake.
Short answer
GTA Online and FiveM are different clients, so a build for one is not a build for the other. Rockstar's GTA Online has run kernel-level BattlEye since Title Update 1.69 in September 2024, while FiveM runs Cfx.re's anti-cheat plus whatever the server owner installed.

Which products do people mean by GTA?
Mixing up the four products people call GTA is the most common buying mistake around GTA, and it costs people money. They are Rockstar's own GTA Online, FiveM (the multiplayer framework from Cfx.re), RageMP and alt:V. Each has its own client and its own enforcement, so a build written for one of them is not a build for another. A seller who lists just GTA has not told you which one they mean.
How is GTA Online different from FiveM?
The differences are listed in the order they affect a purchase.
| GTA Online (Rockstar) | FiveM (Cfx.re) | |
|---|---|---|
| Client | Rockstar's own | Cfx.re's own, separate from Rockstar's |
| Anti-cheat | BattlEye at kernel level since Title Update 1.69, September 2024, plus Rockstar's server-side work | Cfx.re's in-house anti-cheat, plus whatever the server owner wrote |
| Who enforces | Rockstar | Cfx.re and the individual server owner |
| What a build targets | One client, one publisher | One client, but rules vary per server |
That is why a build for one client tells you nothing about the other.
How do FiveM roleplay servers enforce their rules?
On FiveM, most of the rules that get enforced were written by the person running the server. That is not an anti-cheat in the usual sense, but a set of scripts that check things the server already knows about you. No hardware choice changes those server-side checks, because the server is not looking at your machine but at what your character did.
What to ask before buying anything labelled GTA
Asking these four questions avoids the most common mistake.
- Ask which client it targets (Rockstar's GTA Online, FiveM, RageMP or alt:V), and if the seller cannot say, treat that as your answer.
- If the build is for FiveM, ask whether the server you play on runs its own scripts, because those scripts are what will actually detect cheating.
- If the build is for GTA Online, be aware that the game has run kernel-level BattlEye since September 2024.
- Do not assume that a build sold for one works on the other, because it does not.
Common questions about GTA Online and FiveM
Is a FiveM cheat the same as a GTA Online cheat?
No, they are different clients with different enforcement, so a build for one does not work on the other. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake people make with GTA.
Does GTA Online use BattlEye?
Yes. Rockstar added BattlEye at kernel level in Title Update 1.69 in September 2024, alongside its own server-side systems.
Why does my FiveM server ban for things the game allows?
Because the server owner wrote its rules. On a roleplay server, most enforcement comes from scripts the owner installed, and those scripts apply only to that server.
Which one does this shop sell?
We sell FiveM, as both an external cheat and a DMA cheat, and no cheat of either kind for Rockstar's GTA Online.
